I like wearing dresses in Winter but often have trouble finding ones that aren't made in synthetic or in very light cotton, both not recommended materials to keep warm.
About 3-4 years ago, I bought 3 knitted dresses on ebay and in consignment stores.
Since then I've relied on them every winter for casual and professional looks as they're incredibly easy : just add a tee or an oxford shirt underneath, tights, flat or high-heeled boots and you're ready to go.

The one I'm wearing, an ebay score, by Vanessa Bruno is among my favourite, I like how the simple add of the lace makes it special.
This season, it's a Celine dress I would like to own.
The color block knit looks very casual and relaxed worn by Sofia Coppola but add a white shirt underneath, a smart coat and the look gets more polished.

Indeed Lin, this kind of dress is very practical. It's a no brainer.
I seriously adore this outfit!!! The dress is super cute. Reminds me of a see by chloe dress I wanted but never got. The boots look really cool and the long cardi is super cute too. I need to buy long cardis. Lovely outfit!
BTW, love that celine dress. I think I saw a similar one (but in different colors) in a blog, and I think the brand was cos.
